Make do and Spend - The Logo

As part of my latest brief I must create a logo for a 'make do and spend' magazine available to customers in Paul Smith stores.
The magazines purpose is to show how Paul Smith Design understands how the current economic climate is affecting us all and offers solutions on how to manage this.

This is the final logo I produced, i feel it has a raw and handcrafted look to it, which symbolizes the saving of money, this personal and handcrafted look, along with a vintage (classically British) wallpaper behind portray Paul Smiths nature very well.

Go on lad...

After looking through some sticker books for inspiration i wanted to make a modern looking piece. Using the colour scheme from the name badge i made a while back.
This along with a quote a friend said at the time (and every other minute of the day) which is taken from a viral video; I came up with this piece.

3d...or not 3d

Just playing around with illustrator to create a 3d effect which would work with 3d glasses, but only the red and blue ones, none of these real-d cinema ones though!

Black and Gold

I wasnt 100% happy with the black n white look of the piece as it looked as if the crest didnt belong. So i decided to play around with colours and add some sort of background which made the crest almost pop out.

Punk Crest

After buying this months issue of computerarts magazine, i was inspired to create a personal crest.

Gavin Strange a.k.a JamFactory, who has been an inspiration for a long time now was featured in the mag and gave a brief guide on creating crests in illustrator,

using the punk X, the swallow vector from a previous piece along with other personal imagery i created the crest.

Verus Vita, meaning true life...taken inspiration from the tattooed hands of Dallas Green.

Sailor J's Swallow

After my sister told me about the Sailor Jerry tent at the 'Big Chill' festival she attended this summer, i began looking into Sailor J related artwork and decided to take a shot of my own.

Not 100% with the turnout of this, looks too computer generated and not as realistic as id hoped but it was still enjoyable to create.

Sugar skull...

As part of one of my projects ive been developing sugar skulls, one of the final pieces is below. really chuffed with the turnout.

Hydro-Seventy-Four

Whilst researching creative design agencies for a brief, i came across
Hydro74.

His work is incredible, working for companies such as Nike, Maxim, Mattel, Kink and Osiris, as well as numerous bands, he has established himself as a reputable and sought after designer.

Will be following his work closely, massive inspiration as his talent on Photoshop/Illustrator is epic

After experimenting with different scans, tools and colour schemes I decided this was the final piece. Really chuffed with the turn out. Now to put it into In-Design to get the layout etc just right.

Ive decided to do a 60's horror-film poster based piece for a new brief. So to get in the mood i did some practicing with a picture of Vikki Blows. In the style of a true 60's horror poster, it has a nice and cheesy tag line.
A link to her site www.vikkiblowsloveshates.com
Should be a good starting block to the project.

Given a guide on making the word 'Vector' in illustrator, we were then asked to use all the knowledge we had gained to put a personal touch to the piece.
This is my final outcome, after a small bit of tweaking on photoshop to add some of the grey rugged texture.

This is a piece i created when playing around with combining Abobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Came out really bad when printing but ive still got a LOT to learn on that side of things.

Thought i'd knock up a little graffiti influenced name badge for the blogger profile. Love the colour scheme used along with the BlaxSlab XXL typeface (becoming a favourite).

This is a poster i quickly produced for Tokyo nightclub to promote a drink offer.
Nothing special as i had to work from someone elses initial design which wasnt great but still.
Cool to see your work up while ur on a night out.

My final piece for the object typography brief. After looking into plastic cup graffiti, i decided this was a path i wanted to take a peek into a bit further. Using wasted cups i headed to the local skatepark (a graff haven) and continued the 'waste' theme from the egg shell piece. The cups managed to fit better than expected in the grid of the fence leaving me with a top notch final piece.
My (almost) final piece for Typography - Object Typography.
After looking into different type faces I settled for BlaxSlab XXL
Using this along with the egg shells left over from a standard sunday morning fry up i created the above.

Photoshop, brief surrounding work to advertise a modern and funky hair salon.

I'll start my blog with some of my old course and college work.
getting used to using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, nothing personal...just following some strict briefs.
